The ICB and NHSE restructure threatens the service’s diversity

I’ve written a piece for the Health Service Journal arguing that:

  • Large-scale restructures are precisely when fragile gains on diversity and inclusion are most at risk.

  • Processes often described as “neutral” - such as redundancy criteria or performance appraisals - are anything but. They can reproduce existing inequities and amplify bias.

  • Without explicit accountability and an equality lens applied from the outset, restructuring can undo years of progress and drive out exactly the leaders the NHS most needs to keep.
